Troops from the United States are reportedly in the Caribbean nation of Haiti building barracks and other facilities ahead of the deployment of Kenyan troops to the troubled nation. Caribbean media outlets say the US troops are among the civilian contractors in Haiti to facilitate the stay of about 1,000 Kenyan police officers. These officers are part of a United Nations-backed international security mission to rein in criminal gangs and bring back normalcy to Haiti. The Kenyan forces are expected to arrive in Haiti on May 24, at a time when Kenyan President William Ruto will be on his first state visit to the United States.
